The 4th IUCN Academy of Environmental Law Colloquium

Implementing Environmental Legislation: The Critical Role of Enforcement and Compliance
Research Workshop 2007

The IUCN Academy of Environmental Lawheld a research workshop from April 19-21 at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa, where the Secretariat of the Academy is located.

The goal of the workshop was to develop an innovative and relevant research program aimed at the needs of both developing and developed countries. Throughout the three days, forty participants from universities worldwide as well as governmental and non-governmental representatives discussed a wide range of research topics including sustainable development, ethics and the law, and mechanisms pertaining to environmental law, and poverty and the environment.
Prof. Yves Le Bouthillier, one of the organizers of the workshop, stated that he was very satisfied with the results from the three days of discussion.  “By bringing together experts from various countries and various disciplines, we took a significant step in formulating a research plan for the Academy as well as on the topic of research areas, and on the methodology that the Academy should adopt to continue the study of these topics.”
