Friday 23 November 2007: The ballot paper and the biographical statement of candidates will be emailed to all Collegium members, together with the recommendations of the Nominating Committee. 3. Monday 17 December 2007: The email ballot will be open until midnight Eastern Standard Time (Ottawa) on this date. The responsibilities of Governing Council members include the following: 1. Attendance at Governing Council meetings at least once per year. Normally a meeting is held in conjunction with the Annual Colloquium of the Academy. (The next colloquium will take place in Mexico in November 2008, but it is likely that the new Governing Council will have a meeting in the first quarter of 2008 as well. Meetings can also take place by telephone. Decisions may also be arrived at by email) 2. Consideration of matters of Academy governance such as the License Agreement with the IUCN, and relations with the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and the IUCN Environmental Law Programme, as well as the agreement with University of Ottawa. 3. Input into the Academy’s annual work plans for teaching, capacity-building and research. 4. Organization of and participation in regional Academy meetings, conferences and seminars. 5. Timely responses to requests for assistance from the Academy’s Chair or Deputy Chair. 6. Timely responses to requests for assistance from the Academy’s Secretariat relating to Academy membership in the councillor’s region. 7. Contributions to the Academy’s newsletter. 8. Acting in a liaison capacity for the Academy’s committees. 9. Identifying, recommending and assisting with potential sources of financial support. 10. Engaging in recruitment and selection of Executive or Co-Directors of the Academy from time to time. 11. pproval of budget and general direction of management and program of the Academy.
