Professor José Juan González
Professor José Juan González (b. 1959), (Lic. Law). (Mexico, 1981), LLM Economic Law ( Mexico 1984) Ph.D. Environmental Law (Spain, 1999)) is a full Professor and Researcher at the Metropolitan Autonomous University (Mexico) and head of the Environmental Law PhD Program provided by Metropolitan Autonomous University in cooperation with the University of Alicante, Spain . Next to research and scientific service, he teaches the courses ‘Property of Natural Resources’ ‘Tax Law’ and ‘Environmental Law’. He has been invited as visiting professor and conference participants by environmental law institutions in North America, South America, and Europe.
Professor Gonzalez is also the chairman of the Mexican Institute for Environmental Law Research and Director of the Mexican Environmental Law Journal. Professor Gonzalez is a fellow of the National Researches System of the Mexican Council of Science and Technology. He is also member of the Governing Council of UICN Academy of Environmental Law and member of the Academic Advisory Group of International Bar Association, Section Energy, Environment and Infrastructure Law.
In the past, he was Director General of Legal Division of the Attorney General Office for Environmental Protection en Mexico.
Professor Gonzalez is the author of six treatises and 40 articles in the field of Latin American and Mexican Environmental Law, Tax Law and Energy Law. Besides his academic activities he is adviser for a number of Federal and local governmental agencies in the field of environmental enforcement and compliance. In 1999 he drafted the currently in force Environmental Act of Mexico City.
Professor Gonzalez is also the member of the editorial board of the Energy & Natural Resources Law Journal; the Macquarie journal of international and comparative environmental law; and the Revista de Direito Ambiental. In 2008 he organized the Sixth Annual Colloquium of UICN Academy of Environmental Law.
