The IUCN Academy of Environmental Law is pleased to announce that Irene Ekweozoh is the recipient of the 2014 University of Ottawa Faculty of Law Scholarship in Environment and Sustainability. This Scholarship was established as part of a generous donation of a friend (the Donor) of the University of Ottawa to assist the University’s commitment to supporting the goals of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law.

Irene Ekweozoh is a Nigerian citizen and is currently a PhD candidate at the Law Faculty of the University of Ottawa. Her professional experience spans across both public and private sectors in Nigeria where she has become well known for her enthusiasm for environmental issues. She has demonstrated this passion over the years through several scholarly articles on the subject, presentations at conferences as well as engaging in policy advocacy at a high level. She is currently a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) Study Group on the policy, political, legal, and economic issues in orbital debris removal. Irene holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), a Master of Laws degree in International Business Law from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Master of Laws degree in Air and Space Law from Mcgill University.

Se is a natural spokesperson for development in Africa which she is passionate about and has spearheaded early learning initiatives for children in Nigeria. She was recently a judge for the memorials in the African Regional Rounds of the 2013 Manfred Lach’s Space Moot Court competition.
