Role of the Research Committee
The Research Committee of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law is composed of representatives of member law schools and academic research institutions who are committed to developing and supporting the development of research on various topics in environmental law. The Committee works to promote international cooperation among the Academy's member institutions on environmental law research, including generating new research proposals, organizing conference and workshops, facilitating quality assurance and peer review for research under the auspices of the Academy, and fostering publications and dissemination of research results.

Activities
Since its inception in June 2007, the Research Committee has undertaken a wide range of activities to facilitate environmental law research among the Academy's members.
Conferences/Workshops
In 2014, the Committee organized a half-day workshop on Hydraulic Fracturing: A Comparative Assessment just prior to the 2014 Colloquium in Tarragona, Spain.
In 2013, the Committee worked with the IUCN Environmental Law Centre - Bonn organized a one-day workshop on Environmental Law: Scholarship on Effective Implementation just prior to the 2013 Colloquium in Hamilton, New Zealand.
In 2012, the Committee worked with the IUCN Environmental Law Centre - Bonn organized a one-day workshop on Ecosytem Services, Economic Valuation, and Environmental Equity: Complementary or Contradictory just prior to the 2012 Colloquium in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
In 2011, the Committee again worked with the IUCN Environmental Law Centre - Bonn and the Commission on Environmental Law to host a half-day workshop on Towards the Legal Recognition and Governance of Ecosystem Services just prior to the 2011 Colloquium in Eastern Cape, South Africa.
In 2010, the Committee worked with the IUCN Environmental Law Centre - Bonn and the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law to host a one-day workshop on Integrating Human Rights and Environmental Protection just prior to the 2010 Colloquium in Ghent, Belgium.
In 2009, the Committee organized a one-day workshop on Biofuels just prior to the 2009 Colloquium in Wuhan, China. The workshop brought together speakers from many regions of the world to examine this issue from a legal and policy perspective.
In 2008, the Committee helped organize a workshop and international conference on Climate Law in Developing Countries. Many of the papers and presentations delivered at this conference can be accessed here.
