Ghent Colloquium
The IUCN Academy of Environmental Law will be holding its Eighth Annual Colloquium in Ghent University in Ghent, Belgium, September 13 - 17, 2010. The theme of this event is Linkages between Biodiversity and Climate Change. The colloquium theme builds on the work of the Academy on issues related to climate change and recognizes the importance of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity.

The Call for Papers is now available, and details the proposed subthemes for the Colloquium. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 17 May 2010.
The Colloquium will be hosted by the Centre of Environmental Law and Energy Law at the Faculty of Law, Ghent University in Belgium, under the leadership of Prof dr. Frank Maes.
IUCN Academy Scholarship Prizes
The 2010 Scholarship Prizes (Second Annual) will be announced at the Colloquium. Nominations for this year's award winners can be made by accessing the Nomination Form as well as a description of the Prize Guidelines.
Program Schedule
The overall schedule for the Colloquium week is as follows:

Colloquium Registration on September 13, from 3 p.m. - 6.30 p.m.
Tuesday - Thursday, September 14 - 16, 2010 -- Colloquium Sessions

Please note that the EU-China Conference on Environmental Law (not directly connected with the IUCN Academy) will also be taking place September 20 -21, 2010 at Ghent University. This event may be of interest to participants at the Academy's Colloquium. The link to the program agenda and overall conference information is provided further down on this page.
Accommodation
Our hosts in Ghent have provided ample information about accommodation. There are a number of choices, with details about prices, number of rooms available and locations. We encourage you to make your own arrangements, once you have determined your intention to attend the events, as September is a busy time of year in this location. The fees for the Colloquium event are as follows:

The fees include attendance at the conference, conference material, three walking lunches and drinks, all coffee and tea breaks, the conference dinner (drinks included) on 14 September, and two receptions.
Field trips/tours
There will be a choice of visits on 17 September, including a biofuels refinery (max. 50 persons); a steel plant (50 persons); or a boat trip in the Port of Ghent (50 persons) . Delegates opting for a visit inside the biofuels refinery will be subject to a security screening. The owners reserve the right to reject visitors on their own discretion.
Accompanying persons to conference participants can join the conference dinner on 14 September and the receptions, with separate payment of € 100. They can further participate in a visit (with the exclusion of the biofuel refinery) upon payment of € 25.
The conference dinner will take place in the Club of Flanders in the St Peter’s Abbey (7th century) at St Peter’s square (see photo below)
